How to choose your size in sheepskin slippers

If you are thinking of treating yourself (or someone else) to a pair of fabulously fleecy sheepskin slippers this season, you might be wondering which size to choose. No one wants their cosy new purchase to end up sliding off their feet at every opportunity, or find that a special gift is in fact too small.

So how do you fit your sheepskin slippers? Do you size up, or down? And will they stretch? Today we're taking a look at everything you need to know about sheepskin slipper sizing.

Choosing the right size and fit of sheepskin slippers

When you are ordering online, it's natural to be concerned about sizing - especially if you haven't bought something of this nature before, and especially when it's a natural product that may wear differently over time. While there might be some variation between brands, the one rule of thumb we always go by is this: unless instructed otherwise, choose your normal size.

Should you size up or down in sheepskin slippers?

We recommend that you choose your normal size in sheepskin slippers, and only size up if you are between sizes. Do not size down unless there is a lot of room in the slippers when you first put them on.

Will sheepskin slippers stretch?

Sheepskin slippers should not stretch, but they will feel a little more roomy over time. This is because the natural fleece compacts down slightly as you wear them, rather than because the slipper itself is stretching. It will make the slipper feel roomier, but they will also then mould to your individual foot shape, leaving you with a perfectly-fitting pair of slippers.

How snug should sheepskin slippers be?

Sheepskin slippers should feel nice and snug when you first put them on, with your heel sitting at the edge of the slipper. Being a soft and natural material, a snug fit should not cause you any discomfort, and as you wear in the slipper and the fleece compacts, it will begin to feel more spacious.

Should you wear socks with sheepskin slippers?

Wearing socks with sheepskin slippers is really a personal preference. Going ‘sock free’ allows you to feel the full benefit of the sheepskin slippers' properties; good quality sheepskin has the ability to wick away a third of its own weight in moisture before dampness is felt. This feature, paired with the sheepskin's ability to manage airflow via its hollow fibres, reduces the amount of moisture collecting on your skin. This works to stop you overheating or sweating and aids in temperature regulation and a reduction in skin inflammation.

Equally, if you prefer to wear a sock, there's nothing stopping you from doing so, and your sheepskin slippers should still be wonderfully comfortable!

Sizing and fit of Fabulous Fleece Company slippers

At The Fabulous Fleece Company, we make the full range of adult size slippers in both our cow boots and moccasins, starting at size 3 through to size 12.

When choosing a size, we recommend exactly as we've detailed above; select your usual size for a snug fit that will mould to your feet perfectly through wear. If you are between sizes then we would recommend that you choose a size up upon ordering; while the fleece compacts down, the slipper does not stretch.

Our slippers

You can choose from our fabulously funky cow boot slippers and our classic moccasin sheepskin slippers. Due to the nature of the outer cow hide, no one cow boot is ever the same! They are incredibly warm, covering the whole foot in fleecy luxury - and very hard wearing too, due to the tough flexible cow hide and leather board stiffened sole. If you fancy something a little more traditional then we have our classic moccasin sheepskin slipper; these indoor slippers are unisex, incredibly durable and warm and also have a stiffened sole.

If you are looking for your own pair of sheepskin slippers or want to buy some as a gift for a loved one, browse our range of fabulously fleecy sheepskin slippers online, or get in touch if you have any questions.
